ALEXANDRIA, Los Angeles (AP) — A Louisiana man is welcoming the New Year in a unique way — by cutting out designs in his garden.
Arthur Brown is known in his Alexandria neighborhood for the designs he created in the lawn strip in front of his house. The Town Talk reports that he’s been doing this for 25 years.
He told the newspaper, “I’ve been doing it for a long time. I enjoy doing it. It took me 15 hours to do it, so it took a long time this year.”
Brown rye plants that grow in winter and last until spring and cut its design into the lawn.
This year, he made a small railroad track in honor of his mother who always warned him to look both ways when coming to the railroad tracks. In a reflection of his love for the sport, he has also been etched into the lyrics of the NBA and NFL. Walking through this year’s creations, he mentioned other designs such as a snake, a maze that people can walk through, and a window panel. Each year, the date is included.

Brown starts with 15 designs and then reduces the number to about 10. And all the inspiration comes from him – no surfing allowed.
He pointed to his head and said, “Everything comes from the brain.”
