ATLANTA, GA, Jan. 18, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – A special milestone that deserves a special car. Today, Porsche announced the 2022 Porsche 911, the 50-year edition of Porsche Design.
This special car celebrates the 50th anniversary of Porsche Design, the company founded in 1972 by Ferdinand Alexander (FA) Porsche, the designer of the 911 and son of Ferry Porsche. Based on the 911 Targa 4 GTS, the new model is limited to 750 units globally and features special aesthetic elements inspired by the first product designed by his new company: the Chronograph 1.
EXTERIOR DESIGN
All Limited Edition models will be finished in black as a tribute to the Porsche Design Chronograph 1 – the first all-black watch.
In addition, many of the exterior sections have been completed in Satin Platinum. These include 911 Turbo S wheels with central locking 20/21-inch, Targa bar and PORSCHE DESIGN badges on the doors. High-gloss black brake calipers and a special “50 Years Porsche Design” badge are available on the engine grille.
interior design
The interior also features several special touches including a silver numbered badge on the edge of the dashboard indicating this is a limited production car. The center console cover also bears the signature of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, founder of Porsche Design and son of Ferry Porsche.
The Sport-Tex seat centers feature a distinctive black and gray accent pattern, the headrests embossed with the 50-Year Porsche Design logo and the center signature on the GT Sport steering wheel in Slate Gray are all specific to this model.
Standard Equipment
A high level of standard equipment also sets this model apart from the 911 Targa 4 GTS on which it is based. That list includes 18-way adaptive sport seats as well as dark gray seat belts and the Sport Chrono Package with Porsche Design Subsecond Clock, in this case featuring a red second hand.
At the heart of the very distinctive 911 Targa 4 GTS is the 3.0-liter, twin-turbo V6, unchanged from the conventional model, with 473 hp and 420 lb-ft. of torque, a standard Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive system, a standard eight-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission with a seven-speed manual option at no extra cost, and a sport exhaust. The Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+) is also included as standard with the eight-speed PDK, while the seven-speed manual transmission has a mechanically lockable rear differential (PTV).
Two new watches from Porsche Design
Today, Porsche Design also announced two new watches: the Chronograph 1-911 50 Years Designed by Porsche, and the Chronograph 1-1972 Limited Edition.
The first represents the first example of a Chronograph 1 watch that matches the original Chronograph 1 design first released by Porsche Design in 1972, and is a companion accessory to the Porsche Design 50 Year Edition 911. Instead of the brand’s historic design, the existing logo and lettering has been used, and it incorporates a sapphire crystal caseback to reveal a winding rotor that shares its design with the 911 Special Edition wheel. This version of the watch is also engraved with the same 750 number as its corresponding car. The car and the watch are sold together for an MSRP of $1,955,050 excluding $1,350 for delivery, handling, and handling.
The latter is limited to 500 units worldwide and available to customers to purchase individually for an MSRP of $7,700. This version of the watch is completely unchanged from the original in size and design, and features a solid titanium case back with the historic Porsche Design logo.
The 911 Edition 50 Years Porsche Design is expected to begin arriving in US dealerships in the spring of 2022.
