Dabi from My Hero Academia becomes Eren’s Attack Titan from Attack on Titan’s in a new gender-swapped body paint cosplay that is impressive.
Dabi is one of the most popular characters from My Hero Academy, and he is the subject of countless fanart and cosplays spread all over the internet. One of the experts on the “Dabi variants” is Geeky Gainster, who shared on her Instagram feed (@geekygainster) a fantastic gender-swapped bodypaint cosplay of Dabi as Eren Jaeger’s Attack Titan from Attack on Titan.
Dabi (Toya Todoroki) is the estranged son of No.1 hero Endeavor, who trained him from a young age to become his successor and surpass his rival All Might. Overburdened with his father’s expectations, Toya developed a fragile psyche. When it was revealed that his body could not withstand the use of his powers, Endeavor stopped training Toya and focused on conceiving more children that could inherit the perfect mix of his quirk and that of his wife, Rei. When his brother Shoto was born with the perfect quirk, Toya slowly started to unhinge and ended up causing a massive wildfire in which he was presumed dead. The traumatizing abuse Toya experienced throughout his childhood drove him to become a villain, renaming himself Dabi and joining the League of Villas.
Dabi has extensive scars and burns on his body, which allows fans to get very creative when they portray him. Geeky Gainster has showcased her skills with Dabi variants using a wide range of tools and themes, from glitter to candy canes to Halloween, and she often does mash-ups with other popular characters. The bodypaint cosplay shown here was inspired by artwork made by animator and fanart producer v_lee_z (Instagram @v_lee_z), which can be found on the artist’s feed. In Geeky’s version, Dabi’s burns are the signs of his transformation into the Attack Titan, one of the gigantic humanoid creatures that are at the center of the popular Attack on Titan manga and anime.
Dabi is a complex character, whose tragic personal story has resonated with fans who are waiting to see how his reckoning against his father and brother will play out in the final battle of My Hero Academy. While he may not appear to have many similarities to Eren Jaeger on the surface, they both share burning anger and hatred which eventually drives them to commit unspeakable acts. Both characters are also tragic figures who had their heroic journey derailed, leading them down a far darker and more villainous path.
Regardless of their similarities though, mashing up Dabit and Eren like this is undoubtedly impressive and fun. Geeky Gainster’s excellent portrayal of My Hero Academia’s Dabi as a titan from Attack on Titan showcases her skills and how much manga and anime can stimulate the creativity of their fans.
