Thanks Kami. The whole idea of the Super Saiyan became a joke ages ago due to the multiple genetic power ups Goku and Vegeta used to get and Super made it even worse by making their fights the least exciting.

Dragon Ball in the US will never be the same without the Funimation brand. Sony made a big mistake phasing it out.

Is this movie about Gohan and Piccolo? I really hope Goku doesn’t steal the show, that would be so awful.

Watch the trailer again and look closely at the scene of Piccolo powering up. When Piccolo powers up he loses the lines on his arms, his belt turns black and his skin also turns a bit yellow, so this is the visual difference b/w Potential Unleash/Ultimate Piccolo and Base Piccolo

It was already stated by this movie’s Producer Akio Iyoku that Gohan and Piccolo are the main characters of this movie. All the trailers also put emphasis on Gohan and Piccolo. Even in this new trailer, you can see Piccolo with a new power up. So don’t worry about Goku or Vegeta stealing any spotlight as they won’t even be on Earth in this movie

So Piccolo’s new power-up is dynamic adjustments to shading and lighting hues? Kinda like Super Saiyan 3 without the giant mullet and forehead.

Why even show Gohan going SSJ2 at all? Why even show Gohan and Broly in the same trailer? Piccolo?
Goku and Broly being in this movie, and the plot not ending the instant it starts, makes no sense. We already know that Goku is going to save the day, not the Gohan (the actual superhero character in the series).

This is such a weird argument when DragonBalls fans in the US have had access to at least 3-4 dubs of Z at some point. And depending on who you are the Funimation dub isn’t even the preferred dub.

Did we know in BOG that Goku would not be able to defeat Beerus even with his new powerup? Did we know in ROF that not only would Frieza hand Goku his ass but also that Vegeta would whip Frieza’s ass and had him at his mercy until Frieza destroyed the earth?
Did we know in Broly that not only would Broly would survive at the end considering his original deaths in the old movies but that Goku would befriend him (and that Frieza would get off for killing his father)?
I know the way Toriyama (and others) have written the series has made people understandably cynical about certain plot developments but there have been a few instances in and out of the canon where Goku didn’t defeat the bad guy and save the day.

I started out reading Dragonball Z before the regular Dragonball (mostly because “regular” Dragonball actually got a Norwegian release) so I was more than a bit surprised when I found out that Yajirobe was, at some point, probably stronger than Goku was (at that selfsame point.) So yeah, he started out as definitely NOT a joke character.
