The Farm Credit Mid-America Greenhouse and Education Pavillion will open in Discovery Park of America later in 2022.
UNION CITY, Tennessee, Jan. 20, 2022 (Globe Newswire) – UNION CITY, Tennessee – Discovery Park of America today announced a new partnership with Farm Credit Mid America that begins a new phase in the museum’s heritage and park dedication to educating children and adults to innovate in agriculture. The Farm Credit Made America Education Pavilion is located between the Discovery Park vineyard and “Agriculture: Innovation for Our Survival,” a gallery that opened in early 2021.
Farm Credit Mid-America is a financial services cooperative that has served the credit needs of farmers and rural residents throughout Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee for more than a century, providing loans for real estate, operating, equipment, housing, and related services such as crop insurance, vehicle, equipment, and building rentals.
“One of the most impactful ways our association can help secure the future of rural communities and agriculture is through educational initiatives that deliver value to people,” said Andrew Melton, regional vice president of agricultural lending at Farm Credit Mid America. This partnership with Discovery Park of America will provide an interactive learning experience for a diverse group of visitors – many of whom do not have a background in agriculture. We are excited to share with them their mission of inspiring children and adults to “see beyond the seas”.
The public is invited to the groundbreaking ceremony for global warming to be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at 11 am during the National Park Day celebration.
The Education Department at Discovery Park and others will use the Farm Credit MidAmerica Education Pavilion to highlight topics related to farming work along with growing cycles, garden design, soil health, and other topics related to the fundamentals of plant science. The area will also feature two greenhouses. A single greenhouse will provide guests with a chance to see members of the Discovery Park Gardens team working with the plants that will be used to enhance the landscape in the 40-acre park. An additional greenhouse will be allocated for children and adults for educational programs and practical experiments.
“The beauty of the grounds was very important to the founder of Discovery Park, Robert Kirkland, and for many years, we talked about all the good things we could do with our greenhouse,” said John Watkins, Director of Discovery Park Lands. “Being able to have an entire area dedicated to growing plants and educating our guests about plant science is completely consistent with our mission.”
Other organizations and individuals are also encouraged to donate to support the construction of greenhouses. Great gifts have been made or committed by leading agricultural technology company Green Plains, Inc. and Betty and John Tanner, Michelle, Al Creswell, and Diana Frankum.
