A family home designed by famous architect Robert Konechny has been voted one of the best homes in the world.
The stunning design “From the Garden House” by studio KWK Promes in Katowice in Konicny has earned the title after receiving the prestigious international Archello Best of 2021 award.
The architects treated the expansive garden as a natural element with the house emerging from the garden.
Archello Dutch portal is one of the leading architectural publications in the world and tends to give more and more unusual architectural objects.
“It is a great feeling that this gateway is so appreciated and well known in the industry,” said a delighted Konichni, adding that the entire project was an “extraordinary experience.”
The green oasis has a lake and a picturesque road that leads to the house. The ground floor of the house and the living area blend in softly with the surroundings. The simple white building on the first floor contrasts with the ground floor.
He said, “The landowner came to KWK Promes with a garden design that was already in an advanced stage of implementation and the only thing missing was the house because the client wanted a nice garden right away.”
To fulfill the client’s needs, the plants had to be planted much earlier than the start of construction.
“It usually happens in reverse order,” Konecny continued. At first, you make a project, you build a house, and finally you create a garden. In this case, it was completely different. As crazy as it sounded, we accepted the challenge.”

The architects’ goal was to create a building and, in the future, more homes planned around it, which blend harmoniously with nature and draw energy from alternative sources.
Since the architects could not change much in the surroundings of the house, they treated the expansive garden as a natural element, hence the name of the project, the house out from the garden.

“We wanted the house to draw as much clean energy as possible, and it did, leaving a very small footprint on the environment,” said architect Robert Konechny.

Konieczny founded KWK Promes in 1999, for which his work has been nominated 10 times for the prestigious Mies Van der Rohe Award.
In 2011, Polish Minister of Culture Konecny was awarded for his achievements in architecture.
