New Life Saving Club in Emu Park in Australia
Designed with harsh coastal conditions in mind, Australia’s new Emu park lifesaving club features a range of practical construction techniques that reduce the need for maintenance and daily costs. Local firm Design + Architecture led the project and worked closely with the club to create a stylish, modern and accessible boat shed. While it is smaller in size, the new spatial design and choice of building materials respond better to current use.

Elevate access, ventilation, storage and material selection

In general, the simplified footprint, albeit smaller, allows for better use of the vessel, and therefore more efficient storage. Completing the improved design is a smart choice of low-maintenance materials that will save cost and withstand sea conditions. cBuilding materials mainly consist of concrete blocks, wood and aluminum sheets. Extensive design decisions have been made to avoid any materials that may rust or require maintenance such as steel or glass, Expands Design + Architecture.
