Luxury real estate is booming in the Caribbean and it was in the last year after the outbreak of the pandemic. According to Edward de Mallet Morgan, partner at Knight Frank, a global property advisory firm based in London, the market is booming like never before.
“Sales are up significantly in the Caribbean in the upscale sector,” he says. “People are having new flexibility to move away from their primary homes and continue working remotely, so they are looking to buy at holiday destinations.”
Case in point: De Mallet Morgan says Knight Frank sales of single-family homes in Barbados are up more than 50% in the past year, and there have been record numbers in Mustique.
Upscale, amenities-packed developments throughout the Caribbean are also attracting attention, including the nine we highlight that are among the most popular in the region.
From New Providence in the Bahamas to the tropical rainforests of the Dominican Republic, here’s our list:
One of the stylish new developments in Albany.
Albany, New Providence, Bahamas
Starting house price: 5 million dollars
With investors like actor and musician Justin Timberlake and golf legends Ernie Els and Tiger Woods, Albany has been a sought-after residential development since it opened in 2010. The 600-acre community includes nine marina-front apartment buildings, each with a distinct architectural style. One, for example, looks like a cube and was designed by the famous architect Jarek Engels. There are also custom plots and villas ranging in size from 3,400 to 6,400 square feet.
Behind the golf course, Ernie Els, Albany also has tennis and equestrian centers, several swimming pools, a 15,000-square-foot fitness center with yoga and Pilates studios, multiple dining options, a movie theater, a water sports center, and a kids’ club. And we can’t rule out a music studio and stores that house a Rolex watch.
