As the founder and interior designer at DBF Interiors, I’m always on the lookout for the next big home décor trends.
Many of us still stay at home, turning our living spaces into a multifunctional residence.
I have a hunch that design trends for 2022 will include functionality, accessibility, and comfort—with a dash of style and substance, of course.

Grandmillennial décor is still popular in the home
Wallpaper is a huge advantage of the design direction.

In 2021, the increasingly popular trend is gaining momentum.
Expect to see this fad intensify this year — millennials can’t get enough of the old-school extreme trend featuring ruffles, chintz, tassels, and sheer wallpaper.
The Millennium movement also allows for an exploration of style and nostalgia.
We’re seeing an increase in pet-friendly furniture
Pet-focused decor is all the rage this year.
Most people consider their pets to be part of their family. The “Barkitecture” design trend gives pets something cozy to relax on that still blends in with your existing decor.
People are getting more creative with work from home solutions
Home office is pretty much a must nowadays.

This year, we can expect our spacious kitchens and cupboards to continue double service as temporary offices.
Many open-plan kitchens will continue to adapt alternate workspaces with smart shelves, space-saving features, and enlarged corners. I expect a rebellion in kitchen corners as convenient options for working from home.
Large cupboards can also be a substitute for work in the living room.
But if you’re lucky enough to have more extra space inside your home, it’s time to seriously consider turning that spare bedroom into a home office.
I expect a rise in the corners of meditation
You can turn any corner of your home into a quiet corner for meditation.
It’s great for relaxing after a long day at work or as a place to spend some time alone before interacting with your partner in the morning.
To create a cozy sanctuary in the corner of the room, I recommend incorporating comfortable and upscale décor items such as soft floor cushions, interesting artwork, a small side table or bench, and a colorful rug. If you can find a corner near the window, that’s even better.
It’s time to take advantage of the balcony and patio spaces for optimum relaxation
Even a small balcony can become an oasis.

When we are all confined to our homes, having a space to go outside to get some fresh air is a real luxury.
Even if your balcony or patio is small, there are ways to turn it into a space where you can work, relax or read.
Fun and warm colors will breathe some life into homes this year
Color can really affect the feel of a space, whether it’s caused by the walls, furniture, or décor.
I expect that warmer colors such as dark red, yellow and orange will be on display in the living quarters this year to make them more comfortable.
