It’s time to prune your roses
January is the month of pulling hair clippers and scissors. There is the art and science of cutting roses, and the Redwood Empire Rose Association would like to help.
The group presents a trim show from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 15, in their garden at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts and Garden, 2050 Yulupa Ave. in Santa Rosa. Participants can practice the techniques during the hands-on class, which is led by consulting rosacea experts from the American Rose Association. People should bring their own shears. The chapter will cover how to keep roses clean and in good condition.
On Thursday, January 20, local rose association president Barbara Ellis will speak on the principles of rose pruning, also at the center, starting at 7 p.m.
Founded in 1965, the Redwood Empire Rose Society is an affiliate of the American Rose Society. Celebrating 57 years of serving the local gardening community, the group is offering a new membership for the 1965 price of $3. They give lectures from local and national rose experts and show rose care in spring and summer and host a rose fair and exhibition, scheduled this year on April 30.

This workshop will cover the basics of flower arranging
Santa Rosa Garden Club is hosting a free workshop on Monday, January 17, on floral design.
