Historic Galveston Hotel Grand Galvez Amidst a massive renovation and remodeling, now, future guests can get a sneak peek at updates to the 110-year-old Gulf Coast’s only 4-star landmark.
Grand Galvez owner Mark Wyant has just revealed his new plans and designs for the iconic hotel and spa. Peek-a-boo photos include the music hall, balcony ballroom, entrance foyer with its 44-foot-high “Queen of the Bay” mosaic, coffee bar, and Galvez bar and grill.
“These exciting new designs will blend with the property’s existing amenities and enhance the new vitality of Grand Galvez,” Wyant said in a statement. He and his wife, interior designer Lorenda Wyant, fueled the creative impulse behind Grand Galvez’s interiors. The duo previously collaborated at Saint Hotels and other hotels and homes, according to their bio.
Mosaic “Queen of the Gulf”
A piece designed by Mark and Lorinda Wayant, the 44-foot-by-17-foot mosaic is produced by Dallas-based Mosaic Julie Ricci and manufactured in Italy. A pink and red oleander wreath surrounds the “Queen of the Bay”, which will be created in gold. Thousands of Murano glass tiles are created by a family of artisans in Venice, Italy. Installation will take place in Spring 2022, according to a press release.

Wyant found and restored a 1915 Ford Model T Roadster, which will be on display in East Loggia. He plans to move her in person from his home in Dallas to the hotel in Galveston in the spring.
Founders Bar
It’s a new lobby bar in West Loggia overlooking Peacock Alley and the Gulf of Mexico. The bar will display photos and memorabilia from the hotel’s opening and its five founding members.
According to Wyant, the original hotel bar will be moved to a permanent location in the Music Hall’s event hall.

Another item being produced in Italy, this piece will take place on the Great Front Lawn. The fountain was carved in Italy from Calacetta marble and would be 16 feet high and 35 feet wide. Installation will take place in the middle of 2022.

Designed for the West Lobby, this space will open early and all day, serving coffee, tea and fresh snacks.
Meanwhile, the renovations will cover all hotel, hospitality and public spaces. The hotel and spa will remain open and fully operational with guest reservations, weddings, dining and special events scheduled. (The hotel notes that guest rooms are remodeled one floor at a time.)
The all-white and indigo rooms have a sofa at the end of the beds upholstered in a white palm pattern, tropical green and painted white, while mirrored furniture with light sky blue ceilings. Pillow beds feature a custom reflective back wall that extends to the ceiling.
Evoking the Gatsby era, the public areas will include harlequin black and white marble floors with a black frame, crystal chandeliers throughout, regal burgundy rugs, accent drapes, and issue notes. The front desk harkens back to the original 1911 reception desk with its iron detailing and glass features.
Airy and original, Peacock Alley, the grand corridor leading from the lobby to the spa and ballroom, is a design element not seen in the hotel in more than 70 years. The original moldings and ceilings in the hotel walls were restored for the first time since 1962.
