Designer Profile: Beata Heuman | Homes & Gardens

We’ve all heard interior designers have been dismissed as design and decor-obsessed professionals – and a few more – but Beata Heuman is proof that they often have deep wisdom about a home and what it takes to live happily.

Here, we look at the work of this powerful interior design center.

Design Spirit of Beata Heuman

Beata Humane’s First Book – Every room should sing – It has been a worldwide hit since its publication in March 2021. Its title encapsulates her philosophy on how to use design and décor to make home a space that enhances and amplifies the lives of its occupants.

Beata completed the book with publisher Rizzoli during closing, a demanding process that became more difficult as all work had to be done online.

Her experience during the lockdown helped her deepen her understanding of the importance of home to our emotional well-being. It really reinforced how you really felt about home and how important it is to have a home that not only gives you comfort, but also gives you [a way to] Feel inspired and energized.

“Your home should be a place for your past, present, and future,” she explains. You want it to be inclusive, practical, spontaneous, serious, humorous, and elegant all at the same time. It sounds complicated, but it’s really just about being honest about who we are.

Once you find your poise, you should notice a certain tension, almost like an echo. It’s not confusing but noticeable enough to strike a chord: it sharpens our minds and opens our eyes a bit. When you get that balance right, you’ll walk over your threshold — and your heart will soar.

Beata fans, who are now numerous, will soon be able to experience that exciting tension in person when she opens her new location in Hammersmith in West London later this year, something she envisions to be ‘our brand’s world’. Her team has been working to transform this building into a mix of studios, home shows and shop since summer 2021.

Beata Heuman’s design history

In addition to developing coveted product lines—for sale on the Shoppa section of its website—the design team has been working on six or seven interior design projects simultaneously, transforming homes as far afield as New York and Rotterdam over the past year.

It’s clear that Beata has a vision for her work. And while this may sound like a carefully polished masterplan, her interior design career is actually a mixture of happy serendipity and a passion for design.

Looking for something to do, and finding herself in the UK – Beata grew up in Sweden – she decided to enroll in an interior design course. Mentioning this course led someone who knew famous interior designer Nikki Haslam to an introduction.
