Just as legions of homeowners have rediscovered the simple pleasure of spending time outdoors on their roofs and in their gardens, backyard mosquito killers have moved away from the smoky, smelly designs of the past, toward cleaner, more integrated solutions like the Thermacell E55. Now, Tiki Brand is shifting gears from flares that are almost synonymous with its name and full strands of outdoor lights complete with silent, odorless mosquito repellent diffusers.
The Tiki BiteFighter LED String Lights consist of a 36-foot (10.9-meter) strand with 12 warm LED bulbs and three diffusers powered by replaceable repellent capsules. Tiki designed the pods to last an entire summer season, which is estimated to be 90 days of 2.4 hours of use, for a total of 200 hours.
While use will vary by household, the replaceable design makes it easy to keep the diffusers running throughout mosquito season, year after year. The bulbs are also replaceable, and unlike old and infuriating Christmas lights, they keep working if one burns out.

Tiki suggests hanging the lights no more than 10 feet (3 meters) in the air, and says they’ll create a 330-square-foot (30.7-square-meters) mosquito protection area. Users can connect up to eight strings to cover larger areas. The odorless, silent and invisible process eliminates irritation associated with torches and other flammable solutions.
With a simple switch, users can turn on both the insect repellent and lights or just use the lights, making BiteFighter bulbs useful in all seasons. Tiki says the bug repellent feature should be turned on 15 minutes before the time to give him time to remove mosquitoes from the area.

In addition to backyard and deck use, BiteFighter lights seem to be very useful for RVing and other forms of camping where a power source is readily available. Campers can really benefit from any product that can effectively repel mosquitoes while lighting the campground as well.
Tiki launched its BiteFighter lights last June and won an innovation award for it last week at CES 2022. Each BiteFighter kit includes three repellers and 14 lights, leaving two bulbs for replacement. At $159 per set, the BiteFighter is more expensive than Amazon’s series of outdoor LED lights and a mosquito torch or two, but the dual-purpose push-button design and odorless silent rear operation are certainly attractive advantages.
