PETALING JAYA (10 January): A total of 10 participants have been shortlisted for the next phase of Concept Home 2030, a design competition organized by Sime Darby Property Bhd and the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM).
According to a statement released on Monday (January 10), the shortlisted entrants are Area Architects Sdn Bhd, Arkitek Oma Sdn Bhd & Shah Architect (AOMASA), Arkitek Seni Kenyalang Sdn Bhd, BFK/Chaw Boon Kit, Cheong Gin Yong Architect, Cipta Teguh Architects Sdn Bhd, Min Wee Architect, Qhawarizmi Architect, Re DESIGN / Boon Zi Yang and Veritas Architects Sdn Bhd The winners of the competition will be announced during a live event on January 22nd.
The Concept Home 2030 competition attracted 171 participants during its first phase – the largest number of registered entries in the history of PAM competitions. The competition urged the participants to fix the design of the listed house in an ordinary style.
The competition showcased participants’ innovative ideas and problem-solving skills, Datuk Izmir Merikan, managing director of Sime Darby Property Group, said, adding that the pandemic had changed views on how homes should be designed in the future.
“When we embarked on this competition, we asked professional architects to participate in revolutionizing the way forward for future lives, and based on the entries, I am confident in our ability to impact the value chain and benefit the industry through collaborative and engaging processes.
“We envision homes of the future that will be designed with technology at their core and feature a mixed-use space that will be built using modern methods of construction and sustainable materials, as well as harmonized with sustainable living features in modern and circular towns,” he said.
Top 10 contestants participated in a state-of-the-art workshop with industry experts. It was aimed at bridging the gap between architecture and design, as well as introducing the finalists to the four pillars of the Concept Home 2030 competition – sustainable solutions; Modern building methods infusing technology: home brain; Plus expandable and customizable modules.
Datuk Izumi Herzani Ismail, President of PAM, said: “We are delighted to receive submissions that challenged traditional design approaches and pushed different aspects of thinking with innovative and progressive ideas.
“We expect the finalists to push the boundaries with inspiring new ideas for creative applications of smart technologies, modern materials and construction methods, to create sustainable and enabling future living environments in the listed home and community,” he added.
For the second phase of the competition, the finalists will have to prepare their presentation to better showcase the concept, following the workshop with industry experts, for the final submission.
The competition also features a People’s Choice Award, which is based on public voting. The public can vote for their preference on the site (concepthome2030.simedarbyproperty.com).
