The new National Museum of Norway Huge on every level, from its size to its budget. Important pieces in the new museum include Edvard Munch yelp (1893); Self-portrait by Vincent van Gogh in the orphanage in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence in 1889; and Harald Suhlberg Winter night in the mountains (1914), which was voted on the Norwegian National Painting.
The Light Hall is a 2,400 square meter illuminated rooftop space for temporary exhibitions, a notable feature of the new building. Its inaugural show will be dedicated to contemporary Norwegian art, featuring more than 150 artists and art groups.
Nasjonalmuseet is part of the FutureBuilt program that aims to develop carbon-neutral urban areas in Norway. According to the project statement, the museum has “high environmental ambitions” and is designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% while a heat pump that uses seawater for cooling will be used. The entire facade is covered with Norwegian clapboard.

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is finally nearing completion and is expected to open in November – 20 years after the late President Hosni Mubarak laid the foundation stone. The cost of the new museum, designed by Dublin-based architect Heneghan Peng, is believed to be more than $1 billion. Much of the funding came from Japanese government loans.
It covers an area of about 500,000 square meters, which is the area of the main airport building. The sprawling site near the Pyramids of Giza will be home to 100,000 Egyptian artifacts, displayed in chronology from prehistoric times to Greco-Roman times. Among the largest objects are an 11-meter-high, 75-ton red granite statue in the lobby and a 45-meter-tall wooden “sun boat” excavated in 1954 at the base of the Great Pyramid of Khufu. But for many visitors, the biggest draw will be the collection of 5,000 artifacts from Tutankhamun’s tomb, which were removed from the Egyptian Historical Museum in downtown Cairo and on display in full for the first time.

Known as Modern Sydney, the Art Gallery of New South Wales expands It features a new, airy, glass-fronted building designed by Tokyo-based Sanaa Architecture firm above a pair of decommissioned World War II oil tankers. This will connect to the existing neoclassical sandstone gallery via a public art garden accessible 24 hours a day, with views of Sydney Harbour. The design, which features green roofs, solar panels and rainwater harvesting, achieved Australia’s highest rating for environmentally sustainable buildings.
This transformation will create 16,000 square meters of exhibition space, nearly double the current footprint, and is expected to increase the number of visitors to more than two million visitors annually. A complete rework of the collection will provide works by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists a place of pride in a designated space near the entrance and throughout the gallery galleries. One of the old oil tanks will be reused as an underground cavernous gallery for exhibitions and specials.
Sydney Modern is backed by A$244 million ($175 million) from the New South Wales state government and more than A$100 million ($72 million) in charitable support.

Renovation of the Clooney Museum for seven years In Paris, the French National Museum of the Middle Ages, soon to be completed. Five of the tapestries represent the senses of touch, taste, smell, hearing and sight, while the mysterious sixth part is engraved with “My One Desire”.
Other major objects from the collection include stained-glass paintings of Sainte-Chapelle and 13th-century statues of the Kings of Judah that were plucked from the facade of Notre Dame cathedral during the French Revolution and only restored in 1977.

After the long-awaited unveiling last November of the Hong Kong Museum M+, the next-door Palace Museum comes, dedicated to Chinese imperial treasures on loan from the Forbidden City in Beijing. The museum was announced by the Hong Kong government in December 2016, sparking controversy over the lack of prior public consultation. It is a late addition to the West Kowloon Cultural District, which spans over 40 hectares of reclaimed land alongside Victoria Harbour. The capital project is HK$3.5 billion ($450 million) fully funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charitable Fund.
Designed by Hong Kong-based architect Rocco Yim, the building will contain nine galleries covering 7,800 square metres, as well as a 400-seat theater, educational spaces and nursery rooms. The opening exhibits will be about 800 artifacts from the Palace Museum in Beijing, including paintings, calligraphy, decorative arts objects and rare books. Other exhibitions will focus on the history of Hong Kong art collecting and children’s interactive experiences. In the first of a series of international partnerships, a horse exhibition will combine ancient Chinese art with the works of the Louvre in Paris.

The former Zenger substation in Prague will open on February 22 under the name Praha art hall, a non-profit exhibition space supported by the Petr and Pavlína Pudil Family Foundation. The Czech Modern, Contemporary and International Art program begins with a display that pays homage to the building’s original function in the 1930s, Kinetic movement: 100 years of art and electricity.

Manchester Museum, which is part of the University of Manchester, will complete construction of its £13.5 million extension in late 2022, revealing a new exhibition hall and galleries for Chinese and South Asian culture. The latter is coordinated in partnership with the British Museum and members of the South Asian diaspora community.
Founded by Indian entrepreneur and assembler Abhishek Poddar Museum of Art and Photography (MAP) will open in Bengaluru at the end of 2022. His collection includes more than 18,000 works donated by Poddar, covering paintings, photography, textiles, graphic art and sculptures from the 10th century to the present.
