According to the restaurant’s website, the honorary “Harry” of Harry’s Grille & Tavern has never met a stranger. And in February, Everybody’s Friend will open its second Charlotte location at Quail Corners.

Construction of the 4,673 square foot space began in July 2021, and now the signs pointing to the restaurant’s front have been lifted. Tyler Steele, chief operating officer of New Forum, the parent company of Harry’s and Piedmont Social House, said the restaurant plans to open on February 16, 2022.

The gastropub, which first opened in Steel Creek in 2012, is known for its casual upscale menu, beverage program and personalized customer service in honor of Harry – one of the best friends of new forum founder Charlie Hodges.

“We think the world should be more like Harry, so we built our restaurant based on the way he lives,” the site says.

Steele said the restaurant will aim to be a true neighborhood place for locals in the Quail Corners area to gather with family and friends.

“We did feel like there was a bit of a food void there for a good neighborhood restaurant, which we feel Harry could be,” Steele said.

Quail Corners is a neighborhood hub that has stood the test of time, said food and beverage director John McGlone. “For us, if we can become one of the anchors in this position, it will make us very happy and very proud.”

McGlone describes the dining program as a “casual dinner plus,” with a variety of options.

The menu features hand-cut steaks, pasta, sandwiches, and house specialties, including the black label burger and black salmon tacos.

“We also have meatloaf that we are very proud of,” McGlone said.

Harry’s has a lunch menu that will be available at the Quail Corners location. Options include shrimp and grits, French toast, breakfast bowls, crab cakes, and eggs Benedict, as well as the drinks menu with mimosas, Bloody Marys, and bellinis.

“Get a cocktail and enjoy a great brunch,” McGlone said.

future growth

In the future, Harry aims to surpass Charlotte. Steele said the restaurant’s range extends from Charleston to Asheville and as far north as Richmond. Steele said the new forum is in the process of looking to open a third location for Harry, ideally an hour’s drive from Charlotte.

Steele said Harry’s also hires and offers employee benefits including a $15 hourly minimum wage, paid time off for hourly employees and tip employees, and full-time medical, dental and vision insurance.

“We are working on building a really good culture and trying to get the right people in,” Steele said. “None of this growth is possible without the right people in the right seats.”
