Winkler, a retired teacher and educational consultant, has announced that she will run for 49 new Iowa Senate seats. Kurt, a retired community college teacher, plans to run for the new Iowa House 98 district seat.
In a statement announcing his candidacy, Hanley said that if elected, he would focus on education, public safety and economic growth in our community.
“This begins with my support to increase funding for our K-12 schools with open financial transparency,” Hanley said in the statement. “I will continue to support progress in financing the nation’s infrastructure and ways to simplify our spending, and work to continue building a more competitive tax climate. This will put more money back into Ewan’s pockets to provide much-needed relief. I will continue to support our men and women who protect and serve in a way that Effective and sustainable. I will continue to fight for home ownership and property rights for hard-working Iowans through policies directed at bringing more Iowans into homes.”
Hanley said he works with Junior Achievement in supporting children’s financial literacy in our schools and also works for One Eighty as a mentor for individuals recovering from addiction.
“My desire to serve has not diminished and I believe I can continue to contribute to our great nation,” he told the newspaper on Wednesday. “Our public school systems need more funding, but I also believe we need to be transparent in allocating funding sufficiently for the education of our children. … We should always invest in our children. I have seven children and I want them and all the children of our community to be successful.”
