Lewisboro, NY – We’re past the shortest day of the year, but the eighth annual First Day Celebration in Lewisboro provides the perfect opportunity to kick your cabin fever and freshen up for the long road to spring.
Many small activities are planned in and around the city. Events hosted by businesses, local organizations, and volunteer groups are free, except for a planned brunch. Celebrations will take place on New Year’s Day from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Due to health recommendations and COVID-19 protocols in place, masks will be required at all indoor events.
The range of events for all ages includes everything from a chance to get a little physical activity, a chance to start thinking about a spring garden, a moment to appreciate democracy at work and even the ability to participate in an “indoor snowball” fight.
9:30 AM to 10:30 AM – Yoga at Lewisboro Elementary Gym (rear entrance) with coaches Bobbe Stultz and JoAnn Hickey. We welcome all levels. Bring a mat.
10:45 AM to 11:45 AM – Lewisboro Garden Club at Lewisboro Elementary Gym. There will be two projects to welcome in the new year. One would be a pinecone bird feeder in your backyard. Second, woolen yarns and weaves the wind into wildflower wands. Participants will learn how to make a woolly pom and also learn to spot the many inspiring pollinators, bird-friendly seed pods and puffs that populate local mini meadows in winter: Asters, Goldenrods, Ironweed, Milkweed, Monarda and Joe-Pye. Sprigs of wild aster seed will be available to take home to encourage more pollinators in the garden. We welcome all children.
11 am and 11:30 am – Annual Family Picnic Fund First Day Lewisboro Land and Scout Troops 1 He will offer two trips at Mount Holly Preserve. Two small groups of hiking tours are offered as part of Lewisboro’s first day festivities. Hot cocoa will be served by Boy Scout Troop 1. All ages and friendly dogs on leashes welcome (carry option recommended for children under five). This hike is rated as medium and will take about 45 minutes. Strong shoes and warm layers are recommended.

Hiking is open to all, but organizers require those who register to arrive on time. Those unable to attend are requested to cancel their registration so that places can be made available to others.
Special COVID-19 Protocols: Please carry a mask for times when it is not possible to maintain physical distance.
11:30 a.m. – Swearing-in of newly elected city officials (Moderator – Elect Tony Goncalves, City Councilors – Elect Mary Shah and Andrea Rendo, and City Tax Receiver, Deirdre Casper) at the Lewisborough Library. The event can be attended in person or via Zoom.
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Complimentary refreshment station at the Lewisboro Lions Club in the Lewisboro Elementary School Gym. Hot chocolate, coffee, tea and cake will be available.
12:30 pm to 3:30 pm – Breakfast and lunch at Horse and Hound ($18 per person – $13 per child). This year’s menu will be a buffet of French fries, bacon, sausage, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, Western-style eggs, French toast, banana bread, mini bread and pastries. Reservations can be made directly with the horse and hound.
12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. Lewisboro Stadium Project Committee coloring/design competition At Lewisboro Leisure Lounge. The Civic Group asks all kids (young and young at heart) to color or design the piece of equipment they crave most at the Lewisboro Town Park Playground. All participants will be presented with a token of appreciation and prizes with a citywide recognition for the top two drawings.
1 p.m. to 2 p.m. – Lewisboro Stadium Project Committee “Indoor Snowball Challenge” In the Lewisboro Elementary School auditorium.
2:30 PM to 3:30 PM – Open Leisure Gym and Lewisboro Basketball Parks
