Planning for a renovation takes time and a lot of careful planning. The owners of this chic urban home were certainly in no hurry when they first moved in six years ago. “It definitely took a lot of work but we didn’t want to compromise anything or overburden ourselves with the budget, so we made the decision to focus on the ground floor,” says the owners.

“It had good skeletal bones to build on and was located in the perfect way for our family,” they say. First, the owners did a quick update of the 1970s decor, painting the walls white and tearing out the psychedelic carpeting to make it look like a family home, then proceeded to make detailed plans in preparation for the first part of the renovation.

Keen to use a range of local contractors and manage each one himself, the owners briefed each one individually and their diligent planning meant there were no last minute decisions.

The owners enjoyed the opportunity to take over management of the project and both enjoyed the process, even though it took a few months. They say: “The builders did a great job, and the finishes could not have been better.”

Three things the owners were indispensable to in this contemporary update – a dark wood floor throughout, metal-framed French doors across the back of the entire house and a lighter, contrast marble effect worktop.

Sticking to your own design decisions can be overwhelming since there are so many different approaches to choose from, but I did a lot of research over my three years of living here and knew I made the right choices before we got down to business. ,’ say.

In an open-plan living space, they look toward a touch of industrial dining room ideas with a concrete dining table, while adding black steel legs to match the doors.

“We have been fortunate that the previous owners have actually built this wonderful extension,” explains the owners. It’s a huge eight by three meters but the configuration didn’t work out for us. So we removed all the stud walls to create an open kitchen and living and dining space. ‘

Signature black framed doors anchor the open-plan space while drawing the eye into the garden. The marble effect wrapped around the island adds an elegant touch.

In the final section of the large open-plan space that makes up the bulk of the ground floor is a comfortable family living area.

A corner sofa was chosen to separate this area from other areas of the room. Adding a rug also helps define areas in an open plan space or a multifunctional space.

Ideal when someone in the family needs a quieter time, whether to relax, work or entertain, a separate enclosed sitting room comes from an open plan area.

Half-height panels provide cheerful character and are one of the easiest small living room ideas to help add the illusion of extra height.

Walls are painted Dulux White throughout the basement, and black accents throughout help create contemporary cohesion to the scheme.

Coming out of the large open plan area, you will see home entrance ideas. The stair railings are sanded down to match the floors, and the monochromatic artwork continues the interior’s strong theme.

Adding a softer element to this urban chic home is the beautiful basement toilet. Once again, the black accents continue, but the gentle, feminine side is added with the lush pink walls.

Continuing the playful vibe of their bedroom ideas, the monochrome patterned floor tiles also add a playful yet cohesive touch to this backsplash.

Continuing the monochrome theme in the home, the owners chose a softer style in the bedroom. While black and white is always there, the scheme is made more comfortable by painting the bedside table and headboard gray.

Touches of pale pink in the artwork also refer to the beautiful bedroom.

It’s rare for cabinet banks to look particularly attractive, but these owners did. It’s painted white like most of the house, and it’s almost invisible. Interest is added by using this bedroom storage idea with woven panel.

By creating a truly indoor and outdoor living space, the owners made sure to carry the vibes of their elegant urban homes into the garden. Monochrome garden furniture with pops of green is invitingly fresh and elegant.
