However, some may think that this is a small price to pay for one of the most desirable locations for real estate in the county.
We’ve rounded up five of the best Grand Design properties for sale in Northamptonshire earlier this year.
1. Stunning square house on the edge of Lake Wilton

This beautiful £1.05 million home was under construction off Churchill Road in the quaint village of Wilton, near Daventry as of the beginning of December.
But when finished, it will offer beautiful waterside views from each of the four bedrooms and a large and comfortable kitchen/dining room.
Two of the bedrooms are en-suite, and the master benefits from a large dressing room.
The property will also benefit from an electric gate, spacious private driveway and landscaped gardens.
2. The Roundhouse – Deanshanger

This home is one of the only properties in Northamptonshire to actually appear on Grand Designs.
Back in 2014, The Roundhouse in Deanshanger appeared on the popular Channel 4 show, built by Peter and Chard Birkin for around £400,000.
And this year, it was listed for sale for £1.2m through Alexander Lawrence estate agents who described the property as a “truly unique home in stunning countryside”.

3. Transforming Barn – Daventry

This unique project will give developers more than one property.
With plans in place to convert an existing barn into three stunning family homes, this land is up for sale for £540,000.
Located off Wilton Lane in the suburbs of Daventry, the site has already secured secure planning permission to convert the existing barn into three beautiful family homes.
However, plans indicate that the permission could be modified to allow a massive family home to be built in the barn, making it a true Grand Designs property.
4. The Castle of the Modern Age – East Hadoun

Again, this land has yet to be built, but buyers will be able to purchase this incredible modern castle.
The CGI images show how this “extraordinary and innovative” family home could be built at once.
The site has a total area of 10.3 acres, and the real estate agents, Hawkins and Harrison, said the plot offers a “rare opportunity” to purchase a site in open countryside with permission to build a “completely individual and exceptional residence.”
The land was listed for £850,000 in June 2021.

5. Unfinished Family Home – Edon

Another project where the potential captured the imagination of buyers.
Ray Hill Barn in Edon will be a “large custom built house of 3,300 square feet” upon completion.
The project was left half-finished this year and was begging a new developer to finish the job.
The plot is listed for £700,000 with an estimated £350,000 to £400,000 needed to finish the project.
