Ahmedabad House: Meticulously Crafted
All pieces of furniture have been carefully customized, including jolaSide tables, chairs and a dining table. “Each piece of furniture has been crafted and detailed in a way that reflects the character of the surrounding space and its physical relationship. From fusing concrete with wood to using different finishes of birch ply, the repetition of colors and textures played a vital role. In choosing the fabrics, we imitated the colors of the laminate and headboard in the curtains as well to create Smooth transition,” Soneji explains.
A sliding and folding door system at the junction of the living and dining area was envisioned to separate the two spaces. Flawless carpentry ensured smooth movements for these large, nine-foot-high teak shutters that feature panes of glass and reeds. Some paintings were left blank, giving glimpses of the room on the other side.
Ahmedabad house: enclosed bedrooms in color
While neutral tones dominate the living and dining area, each of the bedrooms showcases a dominant color, along with materials such as concrete, wood, and cane. The daughter’s bedroom is dipped in olive shades; Mom’s bedroom is covered in a soothing peach shade; The guest bedroom is defined by vibrant pops of yellow and the master bedroom sticks to a palette of gray and black.
The balcony was designed to reflect the language of the interior spaces and pay the same amount of attention to detail. “This shaded porch becomes an extension of the living spaces inside,” Sunji says. Shown here are bespoke pieces of furniture, with a wall behind it decorated with flowerbeds and lights. He concludes, “Confident aesthetics and subtle finishes give this home its signature style.”
