Color Pantone claims their color for 2022 is a shade of blue, but most people see purple. In this research guide, we’ve rounded up six interior designs from around the world that are definitely purple.
Described by Pantone as “pure blue,” the color of the year — called Veri Peri — marries the “steadiness” of traditional blue with the “energy and excitement” of red, according to the color brand.
However, Dezeen opinion writer Michelle Ogunden argues that the color is actually a shade of purple. Here, we’ve rounded up projects in which designers have added accent sofas, glossy tiles, and plush rugs in different shades of purple to interiors, showing off the amazing color versatility.

Student housing Resa San Mamés, Spain, by Masquespacio Bilbao
Valencia-based creative studio Masquespacio used distinctive color-blocking throughout the Resa San Mamés student residence in Spain.
Light purple tiles can be seen running along the walls of the open-plan area, which the studio hopes will encourage a sense of community among students.

Apartment, US, by Harry Nureyev and Tyler Bellinger of Crosby Studios
The owners of this New York apartment used bold colors, geometric shapes, and unexpected materials to create their own personal style for the residence.
Various shades of purple pop on the walls, rugs, leather cabinets, armchair and shelving unit. The color contrasts with the gray walls and curtains in the living room.

Kruguk Café, Russia, by Eduard Eremchuk and Katie Petitskaya
Lilac covers the soft, velvety walls of Krujok Café in Russia, designed by designers Eduard Eremchuk and Katy Pititskaya to embody the “essence of a donut” (Krujok is a round cake.)
The raspberry-colored purple is meant to be a visual representation of the donut glaze, and the room also features glossy beige dough-like furniture.

Cabinet, Spain, by Masquespacio
A pastel purple wall contrasts with the room’s overall pale turquoise tone and adds to the eccentric look of this Valencia co-working desk from Masquespacio.
Located in the city’s La Fuensanta neighborhood, Cabinette was told of the 1960s movie Playtime by famed French director Jacques Tate.

Pam and Paul House, United States, by Craig Steele Architecture
An eye-catching purple sofa is draped in the center of Pan and Paul’s House’s living room. Craig Steely Architecture sunk the sofa into a 144-square-foot (13-square-meter) hole to create a signature relaxation area.
Residents can relax on plush pillows while admiring views of the surrounding Santa Cruz Mountains.

Home piece, the United States, by aesthetic pursuit
A lilac-blue paint has been used on the body and floor of this Maine rental house, which is equipped with furniture and products for guests to purchase.
“Color was the inspiration for the project, with pattern and texture appearing as key elements to complete the concept,” said creative agency An Aesthetic Pursuit.
