Not only will you support the economy of the area, but you will find more interesting items and you can chat with shopkeepers and employees who can make recommendations for gifts.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the great holiday markets where you can buy handmade goods directly from the vendors, here are some of our favorite stores recommended by our staff.<\/p>\n<h3>discover vintage<\/h3>\n<p>Senior Editor Marisa M. Casino is a staunch proponent of buying booze, and <strong>good wood<\/strong> It is one of her favorite stops.  &#8220;For cool items, you can find all kinds of original artwork, lamps, vases, and one-of-a-kind decor, which are much cooler than anything you&#8217;ll find at big box retailers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"c-message_kit__gutter\">\n<div class=\"c-message_kit__gutter__right\" role=\"presentation\" data-qa=\"message_content\">\n<div class=\"c-message_kit__blocks c-message_kit__blocks--rich_text\">\n<div class=\"c-message__message_blocks c-message__message_blocks--rich_text\">\n<h3>Shopping for foodies and hosts\/hostesses<\/h3>\n<div>\n<p>proud of Mt.  Pleasant has a range of great local stores these days for food lovers, says food editor Anna Spiegel.  New cookbook store <b data-stringify-type=\"bold\">Bold Fork Books<\/b> Is the first stop &#8211; \u201cAs well as a great selection of authors and culinary themes, they sell wonderful, made-to-order Spanish knives from a maker in a small town in Catalonia famous for razor-smithing. I bought a cleaver for my meat-loving father-in-law and a barbecue cookbook to match.\u201d  They also have fun French Bars and Pans, and now through Friday, you can order online by 2pm for same-day delivery within 10 miles of the store or after 2pm for next-day delivery.  (Free for orders over $100).  Spiegel says around the corner, <b data-stringify-type=\"bold\">every peach market,<\/b> With its world-class selections of spices, honey, and spices, it&#8217;s a treasure trove of stocking stuffers\u2014plus, it offers a Chocolate Holiday subscription as well as the popular cheeseburger subscription, and curbside pickup for online orders.  \u201cOn the street,\u201d Spiegel says,<b data-stringify-type=\"bold\">Nido wine shop and market<\/b> It sells lovely Spanish wine, sherry juice, and great pantry items &#8211; plus you can treat yourself to a glass of wine for a shopping break and a bocadillo sandwich on homemade bread.  Or get homemade PSL and pastries from <b data-stringify-type=\"bold\">she<\/b> While picking up some of their creative merchandise, like a snake-shaped hoodie.&#8221; <strong>strange rulings<\/strong>, says Jessica Seidman, food editor, is a small but powerful market in Columbia Heights with a great selection of local produce and gourmet food \u2014 plus a nice selection of beer and wine.  &#8220;Choose a few snacks for yourself, and find plenty of DC-focused gifts for others,&#8221; she says.<strong> hour<\/strong>, in the Old Town, adds Executive Food Editor Anne Limbert, which is also great for vintage coupes, shakers, and other bar items.
