It’s 2020, and the women of the Sugarbaker design company have been funnier than ever, responding to their own differences and the craziness of the world around them. With the same clever Southern brand of unmistakable humor, this new play proves that nothing unites us like laughter.

From the New York Times – September 2021:

Set in Atlanta, it centers around a quartet of women who run an interior design firm, [the original Designing Women TV series] Feminist politics combined with the beats of click-clack comedy, a celebration of the New South with wit, plucking, and shoulder pads… The show ended in 1993. Primetime and popular culture continued. But friends and fans often ask [series creator and playwright] Bloodworth-Thomason What Julia, the candid founder of the design firm, played by Dixie Carter, might say about gay marriage, the #MeToo movement, or the election of Donald J. Trump to the presidency. More recently, Bloodworth Thomason has begun to think about the answers. These answers were combined into a two-act comic, Designing Women. “

Shows run from January 18 to February 6, Tuesday through Thursday at 7 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. The full schedule of performances can be found at www.TheRep.org.

In all offerings, all recipients will be required to submit a negative COVID-19 test result obtained within 72 hours (3 days) of the event, or recipients may volunteer proof of vaccination with the final vaccine dated at least 14 days prior to an event.
