Recently cleared, the quantitative system is leading the way for game-changing design freedoms that push clinical benefits to new levels and ultimately impact patient care.

The Quantum system offers several specialized features, including interlocking assembly in which the screw cap lock is 3D printed as a single unit within the anterior cervical plate, and dual-panel finishes with a textured back surface and a smooth, polished front surface. Improved screw holes accommodate 30 degrees of head/caudal angle, allowing the surgeon to use a shorter plate. In addition, the Quantum System includes Structural Encoding® capabilities to meet the Food and Drug Administration’s Unique Device Identification (UDI) requirements. This adds to a sleeker build design with improved anatomical placement, procedural options and increased flexibility, which could mean less time in surgery to benefit both surgeons and patients.

“It has been very exciting for us to achieve new product improvements thanks to additive manufacturing,” said Nick Cordaro, CEO of Watershed Idea Foundry. “Combining multiple components into nested 3D-printed assemblies is one example of this advancement, which can provide supply chain cost and schedule advantages while reducing patient risk from component disassembly. Nvision’s willingness to support additive manufacturing innovation in a commercial product designed for an ideal transportation scenario. technology”.

Nvision’s Senior Vice President of Product Development, Tom Zink, added, “By additive manufacturing to the Quantum system, we’ve taken advantage of design options that weren’t available with molded panels. The Active Lock system is printed integrally inside the panels, and therefore is never assembled, which means that locks cannot be loosened in the surgical field. The back side of the quantitative plates shows texture to allow bony fusion and is designed to allow the plate to fully absorb the load that would with conventional plates on screws. With excessive angles of the screw holes design, the surgeon has the option of placing the screws further away from adjacent levels. As much as possible “.

As sister organizations in the Fountainhead Investment Partners portfolio, Nvision and Watershed have previously collaborated on other innovative projects, such as structural coding, 3D-printed wedges and interleaving screws.

“We recognize that speed and efficiency in innovation within the industry are essential,” said Brian Keiser, co-founder of Fountainhead Investment Partners. That is why we have set up our organization in a way that allows sister companies to operate independently, yet still allows for collaboration on key initiatives to advance timelines around research and development. As we share a fundamental core culture and infrastructure regarding quality, engineering and process controls across all entities, we all speak the same language. We believe this structure leads to greater innovation that ultimately translates into bringing safer, more advanced products to market faster while reducing costs. Quantum is an excellent example of speed to market as the application of technology from Watershed R&D to Nvision FDA was less than 18 months away.”

Founded in 2013, Nvision quickly became the largest medical device manufacturer in San Antonio, with 21 devices that are FDA-authorized across a range of orthopedic specialties. Last year, Nvision added seven FDA-authorized products to its portfolio, with two additional products currently in FDA review and two more scheduled to be introduced. Nvision has issued 18 patents with more than 30 in development.

About Nvision Biomedical Technologies

Nvision is a San Antonio-based medical device and implant manufacturer focused on providing surgeons with implants paired with biopharmaceutical devices and devices that simplify and improve surgical procedures to help patients restore their quality of life.
