A six-bedroom house built by a prominent figure in the Arts and Crafts movement is up for sale near Chelmsford for \u00a31.8 million.<\/p>\n
Real estate agents Fenn Wright Signature House Southborough described it as an “exceptional Grade II listed residence” offering three floors of luxury accommodation, as well as some charming and rare architectural details characteristic of the period.<\/p>\n
The house was built in 1908 by the famous English architect CHB Quennell, who was considered a leading figure in the Arts and Crafts movement and responsible for a number of luxury homes in the Hampstead area of \u200b\u200bLondon.<\/p>\n

Fenn Wright says the property was “ahead of its time”, as a work it was commissioned to, and is also marked by rare instances of Crittall hooking within fixtures and finishes.<\/p>\n
The property’s restoration and modernization has been sympathetic throughout and its highlight is the dining room, which houses the familiar Krystal metalwork. They also feature wide planks, a wooden staircase with a window seat on the landing and wonderful decorative plasterwork – all beautifully preserved.<\/p>\n
Other details include the oak paneled door in the front, which features scrollwork and marble lintels, as well as parquet floors in the parquet hall and an Edwardian toilet.<\/p>\n

Shaker-style units, black granite worktops and a center island, complete with breakfast bar, make the kitchen\/breakfast room a functional and social space with plenty of casual dining space. There is also space and plumbing for a range of kitchen appliances and access to the back garden via a set of double doors. <\/p>\n
Outside the kitchen there is a warm family room and another, although it can also be used as a bedroom on the ground floor.<\/p>\n
There are five bedrooms and a shower room on the upper floor. The bedrooms are all spacious but the master suite is particularly impressive. It has a staircase leading to a dressing room with a range of fitted wardrobes and an impressive suite featuring a Jacuzzi bathtub and separate walk-in shower.<\/p>\n

Outside, Southborough House has a sun terrace and large garden set primarily on the lawn and lined with trees and mature trees. There is a large brick barbecue and seating area as well as a sunken garden towards the back, which is believed to have been part of the original garden design when the property was first constructed.<\/p>\n
