It’s been two tough years for Australians and Sydney knows it, as they do their best to celebrate the world-famous New Year’s Eve.
The Covid pandemic has made two difficult years for most Australians, but as New Year’s Eve approaches, Sydney promises to ring in 2022 with the largest fireworks display in history.
Last year’s booming North Beach group caused several events to be canceled across town and those that are still happening have been booked out for the lucky few.
But this year, the organizers promised to make the world-famous fireworks display bigger and better than ever for the thousands of people expected to descend on the city.
The family-friendly ‘Welcome to the Country’ fireworks, curated by ‘First Nations’ artist Black Douglas, will go off at 9pm.
Then, three hours later, Sydney will once again prove why its fireworks are some of the best in the world as the Opera House, Harbor Bridge, and barges all over the harbor erupt with fireworks.
And while there are endless options to watch the iconic show, these are some of the best ways to do it.
Sydney Harbor Marriott
In an effort to win over the New Year’s crowd, the Sydney Harbor Marriott is pulling out all stops and opening its secret rooftop on the 34th floor to a limited number of guests to watch the fireworks.
The hotel promises stunning rooftop views with Harbor Bridge view rooms available from $1,959 per night.
The package also includes a seven-course tasting at the hotel’s popular restaurant, Silvester’s.
Four Seasons Sydney
The Four Seasons Hotel is located in one of Sydney’s best fireworks locations with panoramic views of the harbour, Circular Quay and the rocks. The hotel also offers tickets to First Fleet Park for a fireworks display.
Shangri-La Sydney
One of the best hotels in Sydney, the Shangri-La also offers sweeping views of the Sydney fireworks as you sit from your room and watch the Harbor Bridge light up at midnight.
Harbourview rooms are available from $995 per night, with a two-night minimum stay on New Year’s Eve.
Shangri-La also does a number of New Year’s Eve dining experiences with the hotel’s Altitude Restaurant, located 36 stories above the harbor and offering an eight-course dining experience with wine pairings for $2,250 with a guaranteed window seat.
Or, if you prefer to enjoy the views from your own room, the hotel also offers in-room dining options.
Rydges Sydney Harbor
Located in the heart of Sydney’s historic Rocks district, Rydges also offers perfect views of the fireworks with vistas of the Opera House and Harbor Bridge.
Sydney luxury cruise
If you prefer watching the fireworks from the water, the Sydney Luxury Cruise offers a number of options for boat enthusiasts.
the MV Bel It seats up to six people and is designed in the style of a motorized cruiser in the traditional Venetian style.
The cruise runs from 7pm to 1am and includes a bottle of sparkling wine on arrival and BYO for food and drinks. It costs $8,500 for a set of six.
The company also conducts a cruise on MV Health, this works for you and 11 of your friends.
For $10,000, you’ll get six hours on the harbor to watch the fireworks at 9 p.m. and midnight.

Best Botanic Gardens Events to Watch Fireworks
Few places in Sydney offer better views than the Royal Botanic Gardens, with the sprawling garden making up much of Sydney Harbour.
This year, the park is hosting five different events, each ranging in price and experience.
- the point – Located at the water’s edge, you’ll get a front row seat to watch this year’s fireworks. For $385, you’ll have access to live entertainment, food, bars, and fireworks from 5.30pm to 1am.
- Bridgeview – Located on Tarpein Lawn, you’ll be surrounded by pop-up bars and food and have a gourmet picnic basket upon arrival. The cost of the event is $260 per ticket.
- garden with view – If you want a relaxing event, Bennelong Lawn hosts a waterside picnic for New Year’s Eve revelers. Tickets cost $260.
- Founding and friends outing This outing is exclusive to Botanic Gardens Foundation members and their friends. The event takes place at Mare and Foal Lawn and tickets cost $130.
- Harbor View Gold – Do the New Year the way you want to celebrate it by setting up your own place at Mrs Macquaries Point. Tickets cost $150 and you’ll have access to wine bars, food trucks, and amenities.
- The silver overlooking the harbor – If you want to save a little money, tickets to Mrs Macquaries Point are also available for $40, located a little further out in the park but ideal for larger groups.
